Jennifer Porter
Jennifer Porter is Associate Professor of Religion and Popular Culture in the Department of Religious Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She teaches a variety of courses on religion and pop culture topics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Porter's own research explores the religious dimensions of a variety of pop cultural television and film franchises, from Star Trek and Star Wars to Disney films and theme parks. She is co-editor of Star Trek and Sacred Ground: Explorations of Star Trek, Religion and American Culture, published by SUNY Press. She is also co-editor of the academic Journal of Religion and Popular Culture. She has authored numerous articles on pop culture topics; her recent work includes two published articles on the religious dimensions of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. She is married to Canadian composer Clark Ross, and has two sons.
